And since the manpower commander in our old army unit was a cutie, we thought “cutie = qt!” Nir and Yaron are both former soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces' world-renown Unit 8200, rumored to be (partially?) responsible for the Stuxnet virus that damaged Iranian nuclear installations in 2010. While serving in 8200, they designed QTRecruit's precursor, a system that automatically decides where in the Israeli army to place new IDF recruits.eval How does it work? “Not to get too technical,” responds Yaron, “but the system spiders the Internet, like Google, gathering information about relevant candidates for a client's open positions. In parallel, the client continuously feeds criteria into the system about the best kinds of candidates. Using some soon-to-be-patented artificial intelligence technologies and machine learning algorithms that we developed, the system learns over time how to find better candidates.” What is the system's placement success rate? “Over 80% and improving all the time,” says Nir. “It hasn't yet learned to predict how a good candidate will react when they have a competing offer from another company.” What will happen to all the recruiters that will be replaced by the software? Yaron answers “if you're a recruiter, I'm sure everything will be ok,” later adding, “you'll probably need to retrain but don't worry, there are always jobs for good people.” He also points out that QTRecruit keeps a few ex-recruiters on staff to help them keep the system up-to-date. We have started seeing this already with the mobile web, as well as the cloud and Second Life. The logic is that at the end of the day, companies just want the work done. They dont care how it gets done, as long as the output is of high quality and delivered in a timely manner (deadlines). The workplace is filled with legacy channels, operations, tools and a hierarchy that has lasted since before I was even born. The economy is a bullet into the workplace and the only healing is to soothe employees wounds by giving them flexibility. In a survey of 539 U.S. workers, 44% of respondents said higher gas prices have affected their commutes, up from 34% two years ago when a similar survey was conducted. 44% of those respondents who have altered their work arrangements. One-third said they are driving a more fuel-efficient vehicle. In addition, 33% said they are telecommuting more frequently. Where you get work done is less important these days, than if the work gets done. People wont be asking why do you work remotely 3 years from now. Instead, they will scratch their head as to why someone wouldnt work remotely. People In order to complete projects, you need people. People are the most expensive assets in a company. The utilization of human assets is important with project management and the overall success and completion of a project. When projects arent finished on time, people tend to get fired, especially if its a high profile project that affects the bottom line or impacts the end user (customer). Within the people matrix, you have connections and relationships that sway the emotions, attitudes and way of approaching and managing a project. Depending on the project goals, an assortment of people are attached to it and are subject to completing it on time. When a single person is tasked with an entire project, he or she almost becomes the project. Projects To many, the end result of a project is all they care about. Executives within a company arent concerned as much with who it gets done, as long as it does. The end of a project, typically means the start of another. Projects solve problems or create problems, depending on people and external factors. A project is usually measured based on a variety of factors. Some projects dont finish because of other priorities that surface. Personal brand vs corporate brand Its all about who you know just about every parent in the world. While the company may be entirely focused on driving revenues and cuttings costs for the corporation, the individual cares about building relationships with teammates. People also care about how the results of a project might entitle them to be promoted at work. It might just turn out to be another line in a resume. Being able to do the things that I love, with the people that I love, in a place that I love. Success is about a lifestyle, not a destination, and always has been for me. When I feel I have the freedom to do these things, I feel successful. How do you balance work with your everyday life? Over the years, I’ve learned to really listen to my body. I’m a believer that it functions to keep us in balance and when you feel off, it may be time to shift the weights and a take a break. Sometimes that means a break for a day. Sometimes that means a break for a week. I don’t operate much on routine so I’ll have intensive weeks of long workdays but then be able to coast for a few days because I just did more in a week than most would probably do in a month. I think knowing if you’re a routine person is key and also knowing that there’s not a right and wrong â€" so long as you feel good about what you are doing. I also know that I do best when I can match my work activities to the mood I’m in so that I don’t have to feel forced or pressured to do or not do things. That helps me to stay productive and efficient. What motivates you to work hard? Other people’s success. Not in a competitive way but an inspiring way. Whenever I feel stuck, frustrated, or in a biz rut, I just have to look outward and at the accomplishments of others. I find that so energizing. Did you have any frustrations along the way on your career journey? How did you move past those? Of course but they were opportunities in disguise. One of the biggest areas of frustration was realizing 3 years into my business that my personal interests in terms of what I liked to do within it had changed. Meaning, I found myself veering away from the client work and wanting to operate more IN my business, passing the client work off to other team members. This was a hard realization to come to because before I realized the truth of it, I thought I had made a mistake. I wasn’t seeing that I was simply evolving â€" I saw it as a bad thing. Like I either had to make it work because I started down this path (which would make me miserable â€" I attempted that for a brief moment) or start something new (which seemed overwhelming). Well, I didn’t have to do either. I was able to find a different way to work in what I already created. That took vision, delegation, and really being honest with myself and what I wanted. What is your all-time favorite book? Wow, this is a tough one to answer. I can’t pick just one so I’ll do non-fiction first: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. And for fiction, I love House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski â€" brilliantly composed and a style unlike anyone else you’ve ever read. What is your favorite vacation spot? Also a tough one to pick just one! For cold weather, I love Asheville’s Grove Park Inn in North Carolina. It’s my cozy haven for relaxation. For tropical, the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas has been my favorite island spot I’ve been to. What is your favorite restaurant/food? Sushi, sushi, sushi.
